If you’d prefer to keep in touch with nature, Brickell’s also got a handful of parks where you can go for a run and breathe some fresh air, while still being close to your office or home. Simpson Park, the region’s largest green area, takes care of some endangered plant species. It’s a really refreshing view amidst all the building that are around it, Brickell View West and Le Parc at Brickell, to name some.
And also, let’s not forget what Brickell’s main trait is: being a financial area. This means economic activity it’s pretty strong and thriving. Brickell History
Brickell is a fairly new area, and it’s not always been the way it is now. Back in 1871, William and Mary Brickell settled in the area and established their home and a trading post. Yes, that’s where the neighborhood got its name from. Thanks to the Miami River and Henry Flagler’s railroad, the area developed quickly, and real estate held great value, much like the present day. Brickell started to become a place for rich people to settle and buy properties, which served as the ground for its current financial area state, however, its properties were mostly used as escape-from-the-cold homes for people from the north of the US.
It wasn’t until the 1980’s that Brickell started to really get urbanized. One of the first ever luxury condo buildings to be built was the iconic Atlantis. Now the area is full with other amazing towers like Bristol Tower or the Santa María.
Since then, Brickell has done nothing but grow and expand. It’s now full of skyscrapers that are either hotels, residential towers, or office buildings. It is certainly a blooming area who’s yet to see its better days to come!
What is Brickell Key?
Brickell Key it’s an artificial island that’s as small as 0.162 square miles yet still serves as home for more than 2,000 people. Think of it as an exclusive gated community of condo buildings like Asia Brickell Key or Carbonell Condo. Brickell Key even got its own park and a walking path around the island! Though it’s mostly a residential island, a handful of restaurants, bars and stores are located here, too, as well as private schools. The famous Mandarin Oriental Hotel has its house in Brickell Key.
Brickell Schools
Though the place is packed with young professionals, this does not mean there aren’t any options for families with young children or for students. Brickell area has one public elementary school: Southside Elementary, and three private: First Presbyterian International Christian School, Gordon Day School, and Prima Casa Montessori School. As for colleges, Florida’s International University’s downtown campus is located here. Miami’s main library is also a few minutes away, so knowledge will never be far if you choose to move to Brickell.
Services in Brickell Miami
Certainly, Brickell’s top service (or at least the most striking one) it’s the metromover, which is free of cost and can get you quickly and safely through the neighborhood and Downtown Miami. It conveniently stops every few blocks so you can drop off wherever you want and you’ll probably be a few walking distance from your final destination. Aside from the metromover, the metrorail and the public bus system are both pretty user-friendly options to move around the city. The metrorail even has a straight line to the airport!
As for hospitals, the world-known Jackson Memorial Hospital and University of Miami School of Medicine, is only 4 stops in the train or 10 minutes driving. The Mercy Hospital in Coconut Grove is also a few minutes from Brickell. Both are very complete health centres that will attend to your medical needs.
Cost of living, is Brickell expensive?
A lifestyle with so much to offer like the one in the ever-developing, multicultural Brickell has also a tantamount to ask for. You do not have to be a super billionaire to live in Brickell, but if you’re on a tight budget you might also want to consider other more economic options. According to niche.com, the average rent price for living in Brickell is $2,103. As for buying, you can get relatively cheap condos for under 300k in Four Ambassadors Towers, and also extremely luxurious penthouses with prices over $4,000,000 at the Four Seasons Residences.
Certainly, housing it’s the most expensive part of living in Brickell. Everything else it’s around the standard of the area. The average house income in Brickell is about $79,174.

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact amount of people that live in Brickell. The last official census counted 31,000 people in 2010, and it’s pretty safe to assume that number has only grown since then.
